The Greener Homes Initiative in Canada is a government program meant to help homeowners invest in energy-efficient retrofits and upgrades to their homes, as a way to boost energy efficiency and contribute toward a more eco-friendly world. In this blog, we’ll discuss what you can get through this program and how Trimlite can help!

What Is Available Through The Greener Homes Initiative In Canada?

Regardless of their state and territory, any homeowner with a primary residence in Canada can qualify for the Greener Homes Initiative.

To begin the process, you must work with an Energy Advisor for a pre- and post-retrofit evaluation. This cost will be reimbursed up to $600. Energy Advisors are limited in many markets, so this limited availability could cause some hiccups in the process.

Once you’ve been evaluated, you can complete at least one of the retrofits recommended by your advisor – such as installing energy-efficient Trimlite doors – and get up to $5,000 in reimbursement for your upgrades. This is the maximum possible reimbursement for all retrofits.

However, there are opportunities to combine this with provincial and/or municipal rebate programs and tax programs, depending on your area in Canada. So along with the Greener Homes Initiative, you should explore other green programs in your area that may help you get reimbursed for energy-efficient upgrades!

How Trimlite Can Help You Qualify For Greener Homes Grants

Under the Greener Homes Initiative, you can get compensation for doors that offer a 1.22 U-factor (insulation rating) or lower and are ENERGY STAR certified (Imperial U-Factor is 0.21 to meet the 1.22 U-Factor). Compensation is $125 for each door in a “rough opening,” so if you replace 4 exterior doors, you could get up to $500 in compensation.

Note that to qualify for this program, the door and the frame must be replaced. You also must meet the following requirements:

  • All equipment must be purchased in Canada
  • Online purchases are eligible if they are ordered from an online distributor in Canada
  • You keep the ENERGY STAR labels on your doors until your post-retrofit evaluation has been completed

At Trimlite, we offer a variety of different eco-friendly doors that meet or exceed these requirements. We offer a variety of fiberglass and steel doors both with and without windows that meet or exceed the 1.22 U-factor (Imperial U-Factor is 0.21 to meet the 1.22 U-Factor) requirement and are ENERGY STAR CERTIFIED.
